Upendo Academy began as a daycare for the street children. During the day, the children would be left by their parents to vend for themselves. Many of them would go hungry as they would not have anything to eat. It was either that or their parents wouldn't be able to go look for some income. Pauline who is the founder of GMI would collect this children and look after them as the parents went to work. While taking care of the children, they would receive basic learning classes. Eventually this has evolved to be a learning institution with over 50 students enrolled, 4 classes and 4 teachers. The school enrolls more vulnerable and needy students every year as a way of helping many of the children get out of the streets.
